Colossians Series Week 2 | Brandon Brickley | June 11th, 2023

Hello everyone, Brick here...

I had a friend in high school who was a great guy, and I remember him for two reasons:

1. His nickname was Bird because of his striking resemblance to PBS’ Big Bird.
2.  He had terrible eyesight.

I felt for him and the whole eyesight thing because I hung with him enough to see him in a few situations when he didn’t have his prescription glasses on. I remember one time at the beach when he was about to go surfing (which he couldn’t do with his glasses on) and forgot his keys in his pocket. He remembered them when he was about to enter the water and ran back up the shore to put them with his friends. He ran up to who he thought were his friends because he couldn’t see, but it was a bunch of random high school girls. They laughed, and boy, was he embarrassed—tough stuff for a high school boy.

Bird relied heavily on his glasses. It changed how he saw things… The lenses made him see clearly and accurately. I’ve been learning a lot about the lenses through which we see things and what we call a “worldview”. I am convinced this is a big deal and is at the center of so much division & confusion in our society, and even the church.

The book of Colossians gives us lenses at the core of a biblical worldview. It allows us to make sense of what is. Let's dive in!

Today we kick off a 12 week series on the Book of Colossians. This book is actually a letter written by the Apostle Paul to the early Christian Church in the city of Colossai (located in modern day Turkey). It contains a lot of great wisdom on how we can live our lives as Christians. Let's dive in!
